School Board Meeting

April 24, 2019 @ 7:00 pm

1.  Call to Order  

The meeting was called to order at 7:00  by Mr. Christie.


2.  Public Comments  

Mr. Christie shared with the group that schools were capped at 500 kw metering, S95 is in the second reading and includes a section on group net-metering systems, this will double the limit of metering for school districts. Hopefully it will pass the House tomorrow. This will impact HSD with potential savings.


3.  Changes, Additions and Approval of Agenda

None, moved by Merrill, seconded by Russell to approve the agenda, motion carried.

Policy EL 9 Communication and Support to the Board – Incidental Information

End of the School Year Activities and Expectations
HHS The superintendent reported that the Honor Students did their Capstone presentations today, very bright, articulate students, amazing presentations on a wide variety of relative topics. Mr DeBalsi would like to invite some students to present at a future board meeting. Majd spoke about his topic, Adulting 101, a website is available for students to refer to.

OQS students are measuring their school library collection to see how diverse the collection is. Mr. Christie asked Ms Bryant about students presenting their book study to the House Ed Committee.

June 2, HHS Honors night

June 5, retirement celebration, 3:30, presentations at 4, HHS cafeteria

June 7, HHS graduation

 

Policy EL 2 Relationship with Students, Parents and Community

Sister City Committee Presentation
Hartford and Cenon, France

In April/May 2015 a formal relationship was established, some committee members visited there in 2016 and 2018, Cenon delegates visited Hartford June 2018, Bryne Foundation funding most appreciative, educational next steps-skype conversations with hs classes, Cenon student/teacher visits to HACTC, Lego projects, host families, Mr. DeBalsi and Mr. Heavisides will work with the committee on this endeavor, they are looking for a student liaison (a junior) to join the committee, Ms. Boleski thanked the committee members, there is a facebook page

Spring sports season active, many games today

Jericho Schoolhouse Deed
Jericho Community Club is working with their attorney to get the deed updated to include their newly formed corporation.

Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan
HSD nurses worked on this district plan, board members asked to review this plan, bring any comments/questions to the next meeting.


Monitoring Reports:

GP 6 Board Members Code of Conduct
Mrs. Russell reviewed the monitoring document for the previous year, she referenced the evidence she used in completing the report, she deemed the board in compliance in all areas.

Moved by Merrill to accept the Monitoring Report, GP6 Board Member Code of Conduct, seconded by Boleski, motion carried.

Brooks Teal, newly appointed treasurer

Bonding capacity discussion could be of joint interest

Developing a rubric to assess/prioritize their capital projects

Racial Equality Committee (Boleski, Russell)
Met last week, RFP is on school and town websites, has been advertised, a lot of interest, TJ Donovan will speak in Hartford soon

Sister City (Boleski, Russell)
Will be at the Town Block Party

Social Media and Community Engagement (North)
Mr. North met with Mr. Heavisides today regarding the board page, need to develop a hashtag, Mr. Heavisides will work on this with Mr. North.

Wilder School Building Study (Merrill)
The building committee met this afternoon, much discussion was held about the energy efficiencies of the building, heating design, potential energy savings, insulation of walls in brick buildings, savings vs risks

Hartford Community Coalition (Russell)
Application for the Drug Free Communities grant is in

Block party in June

Dialogue night, April 25th, at HMS, 5:00-6:00, Youth Risk Behavior Survey

Regional Advisory Board (Boleski)
Manifest Approval (Christie)

- Meeting Evaluation

The meeting evaluation was completed by Mr. North, the meeting was satisfactory. Moved by Russell, seconded by Boleski, motion carried.


7.  Adjournment

Moved by Merrill, seconded by North to adjourn the meeting at 8:50, motion carried.


Next Regular School Board Meeting is Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the Hartford Town Hall
