Policy: Compliance With Public Access Requirement Of The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) |
As required by Federal Law 42 USC 12101, also known as the "Americans with Disabilities Act," it is the policy of the Hartford School District not to discriminate against individuals with disabilities. |
Pursuant to Title II of the ADA, no qualified individual with a disability shall, by reason of such disability, be excluded from participation in or be denied the benefits of the services, programs, or activities of the Hartford School District, or be subjected to discrimination by the School District. |
To comply with federally mandated regulation, the School District shall publish and make available to the public in communities served by the School District a pamphlet describing the programs and activities of the School District, and shall display informative posters in public areas of school property in the School District. |
The Assistant Superintendent of the Hartford School District will serve as the School District's ADA Compliance Officer. The Compliance Officer will be familiar with the requirements of the ADA and will communicate those requirements to other employees of the School District and will describe their responsibilities under the ADA. |
The Compliance Officer is also charged with the responsibility to investigate any complaint communicated to the School District alleging its non-compliance with Title II of the ADA. Pamphlets, posts and other notices describing the programs and activities of the School District, as set forth above, will identify the name, office address, and telephone number of the Compliance Officer to whom the complaint should be made. The Compliance Officer will, within a reasonable time after receipt of said complaint, determine the proper response to the violation alleged, and will communicate such resolution to the complaining party. |
Individuals who allege a violation by the Hartford School District of Title II of the ADA may also file a complaint with the United States Department of Education, Washington, D.C., at the same time a grievance is filed with the School District, during or after the use of the district grievance process, or without using the district grievance process at all. |
