Act 170

Vermont Act 170 (H.955), approved by Govenor Scott on June 18, 2026, makes several amendments to Vermont’s education and tax laws as the next steps in transforming Vermont’s education system.

The act creates seven cooperative educational service areas (CESAs) and assigns each of the existing supervisory units throughout the state to one of these seven CESAs. The act also requires the formation of merger committees to study the feasiblity of merging districts into larger unified union school districts.
